...Phương Đông của Diêm Phù Đề có dãy núi tên là Thiết Vi. Dãy Núi đó tối thẩm không có ánh sáng của mặt trời, mặt trăng, trong đó có địa ngục lớn tên là Cực Vô Gián.

Lại có địa ngục tên là Đại A Tỳ,

lại có địa ngục tên là Tứ Giác,

lại có địa ngục tên là Phi Đao,

lại có địa ngục tên là Hỏa Tiễn,

lại có địa ngục tên là Giáp Sơn,

lại có địa ngục tên là Thông Thương,

lại có địa ngục tên là Thiết Xa,

lại có địa ngục tên là Thiết Sàng,

lại có địa ngục tên là Thiết Ngưu,

lại có địa ngục tên là Thiết Y,

lại có địa ngục tên là Thiên Nhẫn,

lại có địa ngục tên là Thiết Lư,

lại có địa ngục tên là Dương Đồng,

lại có địa ngục tên là Bảo Trụ,

lại có địa ngục tên là Lưu Hỏa,

lại có địa ngục tên là Canh Thiệt,

lại có địa ngục tên là Tỏa Thủ,

lại có địa ngục tên là Thiêu Cước,

lại có địa ngục tên là Đạm Nhãn,

lại có địa ngục tên là Thiết Hoàn,

THE NAME OF HELL.

...To the East of Jambudvipa there is a mountain range called Iron Mountain. That mountain range is pitch black without the light of the sun or moon, and within it there is a great hell called Extreme Avici Hell.

There is a hell called Maha Avīci,

there is a hell called Quadrilateral,

(aka There are 4 walls full of swords and knives slashing the body.)

there is a hell called Flying Knife,

(aka Sharp knife flies with the wind to cut the sinners.)

there is a hell called Rocket, (aka Missiles fly with the wind and burn sinners)

there is a hell called Pressed Mountain,

(aka Mountain pressed down and crushed the body.)

there is a hell called Spear of Striking, (aka Hell of spear pierced the body)

there is a hell called Iron Chariot, (aka Red iron car, forced criminals to sit on)

there is a hell called Iron Bed, (aka Red iron bed, forced the prisoner to lie on it)

there is a hell called Iron Ox, (aka Iron buffalo plows the body.)

there is a hell called Iron Shirt, (aka Red hot iron shirt, forced the criminal to wear it)

there is a hell called Sharp Points, (aka Thousands of sharp points stab the sinners.)

the Hell of Manure Pond,

(aka Sink into a pond of shit and piss and force him to eat and drink)

the Hell of Copper Lock, (aka Red-hot copper lock shackles hands and feet.)

the Hell of Fire Dog, (aka Fire dog bites sinners.)

the Hell of Fire Horse, (aka Fire horse burns sinners.)

…Lúc thế giới nầy hư hoại thời sanh nhờ qua địa ngục ở thế giới khác. Lúc thế giới khác đó hư hoại thời lại sanh vào cõi khác nữa. Lúc cõi khác đó hư hoại thời cũng xoay vần sanh vào cõi khác. Đến khi thế giới nầy thành xong thời sanh trở về thế giới nầy. Những sự tội báo trong ngục Vô Gián như thế đó. Lại địa ngục đó do có năm điều nghiệp cảm, nên kêu là Vô Gián. Năm điều đó là những gì?

1. Tội nhơn trong đó chịu khổ ngày lẫn đêm, cho đến trải qua số kiếp không lúc nào ngừng ngớt, nên gọi là Vô Gián.

2. Một người tội thân đầy chật cả ngục, nhiều người tội mỗi thân cũng đều đầy chật cả ngục, nên gọi là Vô Gián.

3. Những khí cụ để hành hình tội nhơn như chĩa ba, gậy, diều hâu, rắn, sói, chó, cối giã, cối xay, cưa, đục, dao mác, chảo dầu sôi, lưới sắt, dây sắt, lừa sắt, ngựa sắt, da sống niền đầu, nước sắt nóng rưới thân, đói thời ăn hoàn sắt nóng, khát thời uống nước sắt sôi. Từ năm trọn kiếp, đến vô số kiếp những sự khổ sở nối nhau luôn không một giây ngừng ngớt nên gọi là Vô Gián.

4. Không luận là trai hay gái, Mường, Mán, Mọi rợ, già trẻ, sang hèn, hoặc là Rồng, là Trời, hoặc là Thần, là Quỷ, hễ gây tội ác theo đó mà cảm lấy, tất cả đều đồng chịu khổ, nên gọi là Vô Gián.

5. Nếu người nào bị đọa vào địa ngục đó, thời từ khi mới vào cho đến tram nghìn kiếp mỗi một ngày đêm muôn lần chết, muôn lần sống lại, muốn cầu tạm ngừng chừng khoảng một niệm cũng không đặng, trừ khi tội nghiệp tiêu hết mới đặng thọ sanh. Do vì lẽ liên miên mãi nên gọi là Vô Gián. Ngài Địa Tạng Bồ Tát thưa Thánh Mẫu rằng, “Nói sơ lược về địa ngục Vô Gián như thế. Nếu nói rộng ra thời tên của những khí cụ để hành tội cùng những sự thống khổ trong địa ngục đó, dầu đến suốt một kiếp cũng không thể nào nói cho hết được.”…

…When this world is destroyed, one is born through hell in another world. When that other world is destroyed, one is born again in another world. When that other world is destroyed, one is also born in another world. When this world is completed, one is born again in this world. The retributions in Avici Hell are like that. That hell is also called Avici Hell because of five karmic retributions. What are those five?

1. Sinners there suffer day and night, until they go through countless lifetimes without stopping, so it is called Avici Hell.

2. One person's sinful body fills the entire hell, many people's sinful bodies each fill the entire hell, so it is called Avici Hell.

3. The instruments used to execute criminals are pitchforks, sticks, hawks, snakes, wolves, dogs, mortars, mills, saws, chisels, knives, spears, boiling oil pans, iron nets, iron wires, iron donkeys, iron horses, rawhides for the head, hot iron water poured over the body, when hungry they eat hot iron balls, when thirsty they drink boiling iron water. From five whole lifetimes to countless lifetimes, the sufferings follow one another without a single second of cessation, so it is called Avici Hell.

4. Regardless of whether they are men or women, Mường, Mán, or Barbarians, old or young, noble or humble, or Dragons, Heavens, Gods, or Demons, whoever commits a crime will feel it, all will suffer together, so it is called Avici Hell.

5. If anyone falls into that hell, from the moment they enter until hundreds of thousands of lifetimes, every day and night, they will die a thousand times, come back to life a thousand times, and if they want to temporarily stop for even a single thought, they will not be able to do so, unless their sins are completely eliminated, then they can be reborn. Because it is continuous, it is called Avici Hell. Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha said to the Holy Mother, “This is a brief description of Avici Hell. If we are to speak in detail about the names of the instruments of torture and the sufferings in that hell, even if it takes an entire lifetime, we will not be able to finish speaking about it.”…

…Nhưng vì chúng sanh trong cõi Diêm Phù Ðề kết ác tập nặng. Kết tức là dồn lại, kết dính lại với nhau. Nghiệp từ đời trước liên kết với nghiệp của đời này, nghiệp của đời này lại dây dưa liên lụy tới đời sau, đời đời kiếp kiếp, các nghiệp báo này nối kết nhau liên miên không dứt, giống như sợi dây kết liền thành một mối vậy; nên gọi là kết ác tập nặng. Những ác tập (thói quen xấu ác) này là những gì? Có mười tập khí xấu ác gọi là Thập Ác Tập.

1) Dâm dục: Thói xấu thứ nhất là dâm dục. Tất cả chúng sanh đều như nhau, ai nấy đều có lòng dâm dục. Ðây là mối phiền toái thứ nhất, cũng là điều rất khó đoạn trừ. Việc đoạn dứt dâm dục còn khó hơn lên trời nữa. Do đó, nếu chúng ta điều phục được lòng dâm dục, tức là người nữ thấy người nam thì không khởi tâm ham muốn, và người nam thấy người nữ thì chẳng sanh lòng tà vạy thì gọi là hàng hổ hoặc phục hổ, tức là đã đánh thắng loài cọp dữ, khiến chúng phải đầu hàng quy phục. Lại thêm, nếu chúng ta cũng không còn phiền não, thì có thể nói rằng chúng ta đã hàng phục được cả loài rồng rồi vậy. Phiền não vô minh thì giống như con rồng vậy, rồng có khả năng biến hóa vô cùng, không thể đoán trước được lúc nào nó sẽ thình lình xuất hiện.

Vậy, việc phải làm trước nhất là đoạn trừ lòng dâm dục. Qua sự việc này có thể thấy được quý vị có công phu tu hành, có đạo đức, có thật sự dụng công hay không. Quý vị có thể tự thử nghiệm chính mình, tự tìm hiểu chính mình. Nếu quý vị đã đoạn trừ được dâm tâm rồi tức là quý vị có công phu tu tập, lòng dâm chưa dứt thì quý vị vẫn còn lậu thoát. Cho nên, tu vô lậu tức là dứt bỏ lòng dâm dục, còn dâm tâm là còn hữu lậu, hết dâm tâm mới là vô lậu.

2) Tham: Ác tập thứ hai là tham lam. Vì sao có lòng dâm dục? Chính là vì có lòng tham, ham muốn cảm giác, khao khát thỏa mãn dục niệm của chính mình.

3) Mạn: Mạn tức là kiêu mạn và đây là thói xấu thứ ba. Thế nào gọi là kiêu mạn? Bản thân mình vốn chưa hẳn là thông minh hơn người, nhưng lúc nào cũng cho rằng mình thông minh xuất chúng, khinh thường tất cả những người khác, đến đâu cũng muốn mình là số một. Đó chính là lòng kiêu mạn đang tác quái.

4) Sân: Ðây là thói xấu thứ tư. Kẻ mang lòng sân hận thì đối với bất cứ ai cũng sanh tâm oán ghét, lúc nào cũng hằn học. Thí dụ, mày không tốt với tao, tao phải tìm cách giết mày để báo thù.

5) Trá: Ác tập thứ năm là trá. Tức là xảo trá, lường gạt, làm những việc giả dối hư ngụy.

6) Cuống: Cuống tức là nói dối, vọng ngữ. Trá tức là bản thân vốn là người xấu, nhưng bề ngoài lại làm ra vẻ người tốt, khéo che đậy khiến kẻ khác không nhận ra được. Còn cuống tức là nói dối, bịp bợm, nói sai sự thật, bất cứ chuyện gì cũng nói dối một cách trơn tru, trót lọt được cả.

7) Oán: Oán tức là việc gì cũng oán trách người khác; rõ ràng là mình sai, là lỗi của mình, nhưng lại đổ lỗi cho người khác. Thí dụ, nếu hắn không bảo tôi làm như thế thì tôi đâu có làm. Chuyện này không thể trách tôi được. Ðó là lỗi của hắn. Hắn mới là người có lỗi. Cho nên, kẻ ôm lòng hờn oán thì bất cứ tội lỗi gì cũng trút lên đầu lên cổ người khác cả.

8) Tà kiến: Ðây là thói xấu thứ tám. Tà kiến tức là tà tri tà kiến, cái nhìn sai lầm hoặc sự hiểu biết lệch lạc, dẫn dắt con người đi vào con đường bất chánh, tà vạy.

9) Uổng: Uổng có nghĩa là cong vạy, không ngay thẳng.

10) Tụng: Ác tập thứ mười là tố tụng. Tức là thích kiện cáo, tranh cãi hơn thua. Có những kẻ vốn sai quấy, có lỗi, thế mà lại muốn kiện cáo, thưa với quan tòa là lỗi của người khác, rồi buộc đối phương phải bồi thường tiền bạc cho mình. Nói tóm lại, bản thân mình vốn là vô lý mà lại vu khống, tìm cách làm cho người khác bị hàm oan, đó gọi là tụng.

Mười thói quen xấu hay Mười Ác Tập này trong Kinh Lăng Nghiêm (quyển tám) gọi là Mười Tập Nhân, tức là mười nguyên nhân tập khí xấu dẫn đến các quả báo khổ sở trong sáu đường Lục Giao Báo. Chính vì chúng sanh tiêm nhiễm mười tập khí này nên nói là kết ác tập nặng…

…But because living beings in the Jambudvipa world have accumulated heavy evil habits. To accumulate means to store, to stick together. The karma from previous lives is linked with the karma of this life, the karma of this life is entangled and related to the next life, life after life, these karmic retributions are linked together endlessly, like a rope that is tied together into one; therefore, it is called heavy evil habits. What are these evil habits? There are ten evil habits called The Ten Evils.

1) Lust: The first bad habit is lust. All living beings are the same, everyone has lust. This is the first trouble, and it is also very difficult to eliminate. It is even more difficult to eliminate lust than to ascend to heaven. Therefore, if we can control lust, that is, when a woman sees a man, she does not have lustful thoughts, and when a man sees a woman, he does not have evil thoughts, then it is called subduing a tiger or taming a tiger, that is, we have defeated the fierce tiger, forcing it to surrender. Furthermore, if we also have no more afflictions, then it can be said that we have subdued the dragon. The affliction of ignorance is like a dragon, a dragon has the ability to transform infinitely, it is impossible to predict when it will suddenly appear.

So, the first thing to do is to eliminate lust. Through this, we can see whether you have the ability to practice, have morality, and are truly diligent. You can test yourself and understand yourself. If you have eliminated lust, it means you have the ability to practice. If lust has not been eliminated, then you still have leakage. Therefore, cultivating the non-leakage means eliminating lust. If lust still exists, it still has leakage. Only when lust is gone can one be free from leakage.

2) Greed: The second evil habit is greed. Why is there lust? It is because of greed, desire for feelings, and the desire to satisfy one's own desires.

3) Pride: Pride means arrogance and this is the third bad habit. What is arrogance? You yourself are not necessarily smarter than others, but you always think that you are exceptionally smart, look down on everyone else, and want to be number one wherever you go. That is arrogance at work.

4) Anger: This is the fourth bad habit. A person with anger will always have a hateful heart towards anyone, always resentful. For example, you are not good to me, I must find a way to kill you to get revenge.

5) Deception: The fifth evil habit is deception. That is, being cunning, deceitful, doing false and deceitful things.

6) Deceit: Deceit means lying, false speech. Deception means that one is inherently a bad person, but on the outside pretends to be a good person, cleverly covering up so that others cannot recognize it. Deceit means lying, cheating, telling untruths, lying about anything smoothly and successfully.

7) Resentment: Resentment means blaming others for everything; it is clear that you are wrong, it is your fault, but you blame others. For example, if he does not tell me to do it, I have not done it. This cannot be blamed on me. It is his fault. He is the one at fault. Therefore, those who hold grudges will blame everyone for their sins.

8) Wrong views: This is the eighth bad habit. Wrong views mean wrong knowledge, wrong views or distorted understanding, leading people to go down the wrong, crooked path.

9) Tortuous: Tortuous means crooked, not straight.

7) Oán: Oán tức là việc gì cũng oán trách người khác; rõ ràng là mình sai, là lỗi của mình, nhưng lại đổ lỗi cho người khác. Thí dụ, nếu hắn không bảo tôi làm như thế thì tôi đâu có làm. Chuyện này không thể trách tôi được. Ðó là lỗi của hắn. Hắn mới là người có lỗi. Cho nên, kẻ ôm lòng hờn oán thì bất cứ tội lỗi gì cũng trút lên đầu lên cổ người khác cả.

8) Tà kiến: Ðây là thói xấu thứ tám. Tà kiến tức là tà tri tà kiến, cái nhìn sai lầm hoặc sự hiểu biết lệch lạc, dẫn dắt con người đi vào con đường bất chánh, tà vạy.

9) Uổng: Uổng có nghĩa là cong vạy, không ngay thẳng.

4) Sân: Ðây là thói xấu thứ tư. Kẻ mang lòng sân hận thì đối với bất cứ ai cũng sanh tâm oán ghét, lúc nào cũng hằn học. Thí dụ, mày không tốt với tao, tao phải tìm cách giết mày để báo thù.

5) Trá: Ác tập thứ năm là trá. Tức là xảo trá, lường gạt, làm những việc giả dối hư ngụy.

6) Cuống: Cuống tức là nói dối, vọng ngữ. Trá tức là bản thân vốn là người xấu, nhưng bề ngoài lại làm ra vẻ người tốt, khéo che đậy khiến kẻ khác không nhận ra được. Còn cuống tức là nói dối, bịp bợm, nói sai sự thật, bất cứ chuyện gì cũng nói dối một cách trơn tru, trót lọt được cả.

4) Anger: This is the fourth bad habit. A person with anger will always have a hateful heart towards anyone, always resentful. For example, you are not good to me, I must find a way to kill you to get revenge.

2) Tham: Ác tập thứ hai là tham lam. Vì sao có lòng dâm dục? Chính là vì có lòng tham, ham muốn cảm giác, khao khát thỏa mãn dục niệm của chính mình.

3) Mạn: Mạn tức là kiêu mạn và đây là thói xấu thứ ba. Thế nào gọi là kiêu mạn? Bản thân mình vốn chưa hẳn là thông minh hơn người, nhưng lúc nào cũng cho rằng mình thông minh xuất chúng, khinh thường tất cả những người khác, đến đâu cũng muốn mình là số một. Đó chính là lòng kiêu mạn đang tác quái.

Vậy, việc phải làm trước nhất là đoạn trừ lòng dâm dục. Qua sự việc này có thể thấy được quý vị có công phu tu hành, có đạo đức, có thật sự dụng công hay không. Quý vị có thể tự thử nghiệm chính mình, tự tìm hiểu chính mình. Nếu quý vị đã đoạn trừ được dâm tâm rồi tức là quý vị có công phu tu tập, lòng dâm chưa dứt thì quý vị vẫn còn lậu thoát. Cho nên, tu vô lậu tức là dứt bỏ lòng dâm dục, còn dâm tâm là còn hữu lậu, hết dâm tâm mới là vô lậu.

1) Dâm dục: Thói xấu thứ nhất là dâm dục. Tất cả chúng sanh đều như nhau, ai nấy đều có lòng dâm dục. Ðây là mối phiền toái thứ nhất, cũng là điều rất khó đoạn trừ. Việc đoạn dứt dâm dục còn khó hơn lên trời nữa. Do đó, nếu chúng ta điều phục được lòng dâm dục, tức là người nữ thấy người nam thì không khởi tâm ham muốn, và người nam thấy người nữ thì chẳng sanh lòng tà vạy thì gọi là hàng hổ hoặc phục hổ, tức là đã đánh thắng loài cọp dữ, khiến chúng phải đầu hàng quy phục. Lại thêm, nếu chúng ta cũng không còn phiền não, thì có thể nói rằng chúng ta đã hàng phục được cả loài rồng rồi vậy. Phiền não vô minh thì giống như con rồng vậy, rồng có khả năng biến hóa vô cùng, không thể đoán trước được lúc nào nó sẽ thình lình xuất hiện.

…Nhưng vì chúng sanh trong cõi Diêm Phù Ðề kết ác tập nặng. Kết tức là dồn lại, kết dính lại với nhau. Nghiệp từ đời trước liên kết với nghiệp của đời này, nghiệp của đời này lại dây dưa liên lụy tới đời sau, đời đời kiếp kiếp, các nghiệp báo này nối kết nhau liên miên không dứt, giống như sợi dây kết liền thành một mối vậy; nên gọi là kết ác tập nặng. …Có bao nhiêu địa ngục? Có đến hàng ngàn hàng vạn địa ngục, và mỗi ngục mỗi có những thiết bị khác nhau, không ngục nào giống với ngục nào. Có thể nói rằng mỗi người gây mỗi nghiệp, chẳng ai giống ai, cho nên mỗi người tự tạo mỗi địa ngục cho chính mình. Ðịa ngục hoàn toàn không phải được xây sẵn hoặc chuẩn bị sẵn cho con người trước khi chết. Không phải thế! Ðịa ngục là do tự nghiệp của mỗi người chiêu cảm mà hiện ra. Tự mình tạo nghiệp tội gì, thì phải gánh chịu quả báo tương ứng với tội lỗi đó. Gây vô số ác nghiệp tất gặp vô số ác báo…

Còn người nữ nhìn cột đồng nóng thì lại thấy đó là một người nam khôi ngô tuấn tú, hoặc là bạn trai cũ của mình, liền vui mừng cho rằng "đất khách gặp cố nhân," bèn hớn hở chạy ào đến ôm chầm lấy, nhưng tới nơi thì liền bị "lửa dục" (dục hỏa) này thiêu chết…

…Tội nhân bị chết rồi, thì sau đó trong địa ngục có một ngọn “Xảo Phong" (gió tinh khôn) do một thứ diệu pháp tạo thành, thổi lướt qua. Ngọn gió này thổi đến thì họ đều sống trở lại, nhưng sau khi sống lại, họ lại quên mất hình phạt vừa mới thọ nhận, mà chỉ nhớ điều ưa thích trước, nên cứ "chứng nào tật nấy," do đó lại phải tiếp tục chịu khổ báo, và các hình phạt tại địa ngục cột đồng nung cứ thế mà tái diễn…

It can be said that each person is different and creates his/her own karma and hell. Hell is absolutely not built or prepared for people before death. Not so! Hell is created by each person's own karma. If he/she creates a sin, he/she must bear the consequences corresponding to that sin. Committing countless evil deeds will surely result in countless evil retributions…

…For example, there is a place called the “Hell Of The Bronze Pillar.“ In this hell there is a bronze pillar made of copper, hollow inside, so that a fire can be lit inside. What kind of people must fall into this hell? Those are lustful and promiscuous people who specialize in doing wrong things; because this hell of burning copper pillars is caused by their own karma! They look at the bronze pillar, but to them it is not a fiery bronze pillar, but the shape of a human being. The man sees that it is a beautiful woman, so he is so happy that he jumps forward and hugs her, and thus is burned by the fire until his skin and flesh are burned, and he wants to pull it off but he cannot. The woman looks at the hot copper pillar and sees that it is a handsome man, or her ex-boyfriend. She is so happy that she thinks she is "meeting an old friend in a foreign land." She happily run to hug him, but when she get there, she is immediately burned to death by this "fire of desire" (lust fire)...

…After the sinners die, a magically created "Wind of Intelligence" will blow through hell. When this wind blows, they are all resurrected, but after being resurrected, they forget the punishment they have just received, only remembering what they have liked before, so they “return to their old ways”, thus having to continue to receive punishment, and the punishment in the molten copper pillar hell keep repeating itself...
